Are you skilled in working with children with Autism and ready to make a difference? We are looking for an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to work 1:1 with a primary-aged child in Burgess Hill who requires specialised support. This role requires knowledge of Autism Spectrum Disorder, patience, and the ability to use visual aids or communication strategies to help the child thrive in the classroom.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide consistent 1:1 support tailored to the needs of a child with Autism.
  • Use visual aids, communication tools, or sensory strategies to support learning.
  • Collaborate closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement individualized support plans.
  • Foster social, emotional, and communication skills within a nurturing environment.
  • Assist with transitions, routine adjustments, and sensory needs throughout the school day.

Essential Experience/Attributes:

  • Previous experience supporting children with Autism or SEN.
  • Knowledge of Autism-specific strategies, including visual aids, sensory integration, and structured routines.
  • A DBS check registered on the update service or willingness to obtain one.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build a trusting relationship with the child.
  • Empathetic, patient, and adaptable approach to supporting the child’s unique needs.
