Job Description: Teaching Assistant – SEMH School

Location: Guildford
Age Range: 2-19 years old
Salary: £84-£90 per day
Working Hours: 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM, Monday to Friday


About the Role:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join our team at a specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) school in Guildford. This role offers an exciting opportunity to support children and young adults aged 2-19 years old with a range of SEMH needs.

As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in creating a nurturing and inclusive learning environment, enabling students to achieve their potential academically, socially, and emotionally.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Learning: Assist the class teacher in delivering tailored lessons and activities that meet individual student needs.
  • Encourage Development: Foster positive relationships with students, promoting their emotional well-being and confidence.
  • Classroom Management: Help maintain a safe and structured classroom environment, managing challenging behaviour effectively and empathetically.
  • One-to-One Support: Provide targeted support to individual students as required.
  • Promote Independence: Encourage students to develop life skills, resilience, and independence.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to implement individual education and behaviour plans.

About You:
We are looking for someone who is:

  • Empathetic and patient, with a genuine passion for working with children and young people with SEMH needs.
  • Resilient and adaptable, capable of managing challenging situations calmly.
  • A strong communicator, able to build trusting relationships with students and staff.
  • Committed to inclusion, ensuring all students feel valued and supported.

Essential Qualifications/Experience:

  • Experience working with children or young people, ideally in an educational or care setting.
  • An understanding of SEMH needs and strategies for supporting these.

Desirable Qualifications/Experience:

  • Previous experience in an SEMH or special needs school.
  • Relevant training or qualifications, such as Team Teach, Autism Awareness, or similar.
