About Us:

As the Head of Academic Curriculum, you will play a vital role in designing, implementing, and overseeing our curriculum to ensure it meets the diverse needs of our students and promotes their mental well-being and academic growth.

Position: Head of Academic Curriculum
Hours: Full-time, term time
Salary: Competitive, based on experience and qualifications

Role Responsibilities:

  • Curriculum Leadership: Lead the development and implementation of a progressive, inclusive curriculum that addresses both academic and life skills, aligning with SEMH principles.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with teachers, counsellors, and support staff to integrate academic and therapeutic strategies, creating a cohesive learning environment.
  • Behavior Management: Support the teaching team in implementing effective behavior management strategies and maintain a structured, positive classroom atmosphere.
  • Staff Development: Mentor and guide teachers on best practices for working with students facing SEMH challenges, promoting an inclusive and supportive teaching culture.
  • Individualized Support: Oversee the development of personalized learning plans to support each student’s unique academic and emotional needs.
  • Classroom Environment: Contribute to the creation of a calm, organized, and emotionally supportive classroom setting.

Qualities and Experience:

The ideal candidate will bring the following qualities and experience:

  • Leadership Experience: Prior experience in a leadership role within an educational or therapeutic setting, with a strong background in working with SEMH students and challenging behaviors.
  • Curriculum Expertise: Proven track record in curriculum design and implementation, ideally with an emphasis on SEMH and/or therapeutic support.
  • Empathy and Resilience: A genuine passion for supporting young people through SEMH challenges, with the resilience to manage challenging situations effectively.
  • Strong Communication Skills: Excellent communication and de-escalation skills, with the ability to lead, motivate, and inspire a diverse team of educators and support staff.
  • Adaptability: Flexibility and responsiveness to the evolving emotional and behavioral needs of students.
  • Relevant Qualifications: A background in education, psychology, counseling, or therapy will complement your ability to guide SEMH-focused learning.
