Kitchen/Catering Support Assistant Job Description
Job Details:
- Grade: 6
- Hours: 8:30 am – 2:00 pm
- Term Time Only: 38 weeks + 5 Inset Days
- Location: Chichester
Job Purpose:
This unique role combines Kitchen Assistant duties with Specialist Support Assistant responsibilities, providing nutritious, freshly prepared meals for students. You will be responsible for meal preparation, cooking, serving, and maintaining kitchen cleanliness and hygiene. Additionally, you will support students and staff in developing life skills through cooking activities.
Key Skills:
- Ability to prepare and cook healthy, nutritious meals to a high standard.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with stakeholders, including pupils with special needs.
- Good numeracy, literacy, and organizational skills to manage stock and compliance checks.
- Ability to supervise the team and manage meal services with support.
- Knowledge of food hygiene and safety standards, with the ability to follow legislation and Government guidelines.
Qualifications and/or Experience:
- Level 2 Food Safety (training will be provided)
- Experience in catering, preparing, and cooking fresh food from scratch (Desirable)
- Experience working as part of a team
- Supervisory experience or running a catering service (Desirable)
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare, cook, and serve hot meals alongside the lead teacher.
- Assist in managing the catering service, ensuring standards for preparation, cooking, and cleanliness are maintained.
- Allocate tasks to the team, maintaining hygiene and safety measures.
- Consider any special dietary or nutritional needs of students.
- Ensure kitchen equipment is kept clean and in serviceable condition, reporting necessary repairs.
- Manage stock control, order supplies, and ensure timely deliveries.
- Maintain accurate records of temperature checks, stock levels, and food safety measures.
- Ensure compliance with Food Safety and Health & Safety Legislation, completing written documents and weekly reports.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Participate in performance reviews and training as required.
- Comply with all relevant policies, including child protection, health and safety, data protection, and equal opportunities.
- Contribute to the overall ethos and aims of the school.
- Duties may vary in response to the school’s changing needs at the direction of the leadership team.
