Job Summary

Special Education School near Haslemere is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Teaching Assistant to join their team. The successful candidate will support students with special educational needs (SEN) in a nurturing and inclusive environment. This role involves assisting teachers in delivering tailored educational programs and providing one-on-one support to students to help them achieve their full potential.

Position: Teaching Assistant
Contract Type: Full Time, Temp to Perm
Working Schedule: Term Time Only, 08:30 – 15:30 (32.5 hours per week)
Salary: £84 – £110 per day PAYE
Start Date: ASAP

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist Classroom Teacher: Support the classroom teacher in planning and delivering individualized education programs (IEPs) for students with SEN.

  • One-on-One Support: Provide direct assistance to students, helping them with academic tasks, social skills, and daily routines.

  • Classroom Management: Aid in maintaining a positive and inclusive classroom environment, ensuring the safety and well-being of all students.

  • Behavioral Support: Implement behavior management strategies to promote positive behaviors and support students in managing their emotions and actions.

  • Communication: Facilitate communication between students, teachers, parents, and other professionals to ensure consistent support and progress monitoring.

  • Adapt Learning Materials: Modify and adapt learning materials to meet the diverse needs and abilities of students.

  • Assist with Personal Care: Provide support with personal care tasks as needed, ensuring students’ dignity and comfort.

  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of student progress, behavior, and any incidents, providing regular updates to the classroom teacher and other relevant staff.

  • Extracurricular Activities: Participate in and support extracurricular activities and school events that enhance the learning experience for students with SEN.

Qualifications

  • Education: A relevant qualification in Special Education or Teaching Assistance is preferred but not necessary.

  • Experience: Previous experience working with children with special educational needs is highly desirable.

  • Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, patience, empathy, and the ability to work effectively in a team.

  • Certifications: Any relevant certifications, such as First Aid, Manual Handling, and Safeguarding, are advantageous.

  • DBS Check: A current Enhanced DBS check or willingness to undergo one.
