Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant
Hours: Full-time (Term Time)

A primary school in Littlehampton is seeking a highly experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils with challenging behaviours. These children often struggle with emotional regulation, finding it difficult to adapt to school routines and structure. Your role will be to help them understand and manage their emotions, encourage positive interactions, and foster a safe and engaging learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 or small-group support to pupils with challenging behaviours, focusing on emotional regulation and behaviour management.
  • Help children adapt to school routines, guiding them in understanding the structure of the school day.
  • Collaborate with teachers and other support staff to create personalised strategies for each child’s progress.
  • Offer consistent, patient, and proactive support to build trust and confidence.
  • Monitor and record progress, adapting approaches as children become more comfortable in the school setting.

Essential Experience/Attributes:

  • Strong background in working with children with additional needs, whether in schools, care, or alternative settings.
  • Proven ability to handle challenging behaviours calmly and effectively.
  • A DBS check registered on the update service or a willingness to obtain one.
  • An empathetic, adaptable, and resilient approach.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
  • Understanding of safeguarding procedures and school behavioural policies.
